Job description
Hydrosat is a space and data analytics company building a new Earth observation constellation and software to unlock the power of thermal infrared imagery. Our mission is to capture and deliver high spatio-temporal resolution thermal infrared data, currently not available from other sources, to provide insights that benefit the environment, enhance food and water security, and serve other critical applications. Our downstream applications team in Luxembourg combines best-in-class remote sensing, machine learning, and cutting-edge fusion approaches to thermal imagery to deliver innovative and scalable solutions to the agri-food industry.
We are looking for bright, creative, and ambitious people who can work in a dynamic and collaborative start-up environment. Hydrosat is determined to change the way people use space imagery and revolutionize agriculture. Join us on this mission and help transform the world.
As an Agricultural Remote Sensing Scientist, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team of scientists and engineers focused on developing innovative commercial products for farm irrigation management, crop stress detection, and water productivity accounting. Your responsibilities will include collaborating on the development of algorithms to provide actionable insights based on remote sensing data.
Responsibilities
Utilize field data and remote sensing platforms to develop evidence-based models for water consumption and demand in field crops.
Design and enhance commercial algorithms to detect soil moisture and water stress in farm crops using remote sensing data, optimizing farm-level irrigation management.
Address challenges in scaling algorithms to diverse climatic conditions, soil types, and crop species.
Coordinate, analyze, and provide expert advice on farm field experiments to validate algorithms under real-world conditions.
Job requirements
Master’s degree in Agricultural or Environmental Sciences, Physics, Remote Sensing, or a related field.
Proficiency or familiarity with programming in Python.
Understanding of surface energy balance principles or the water cycle within the soil-plant-atmosphere system.
Highly self-motivated and eager to learn, with a demonstrated ability to solve complex problems creatively.
Strong team player with proven ability to take ownership and collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.
Desired Qualifications
PhD in Agricultural or Environmental Sciences, Physics, Remote Sensing, or a related field.
At least 2 years of relevant experience in a research-focused role.
Strong foundation in surface energy balance modeling, soil physics, hydrology, or related domains
Proficiency in soil moisture retrieval from remote sensing or water balance modeling techniques.
Experience with geospatial and earth observation tools, including satellite data processing, Rasterio/GDAL, and GIS tools.
Familiarity with remote sensing, thermal imaging, or statistical analysis is a strong asset.
Agricultural Knowledge: Familiarity with the agricultural sector and agronomical best practices.
Experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS.
Proficiency in collaborative software development using version control tools (e.g., Git).
