Job description

Hydrosat is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to support the design, analysis, and development of flight hardware for space-based payloads and related systems. This role involves electrical architecture, schematic and layout design, firmware development, and prototype testing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in space electronics and a passion for building reliable systems that operate in challenging environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine electrical requirements for space payloads and flight hardware

  • Design and analyze electrical systems including digital processing, power distribution, signal integrity, and interface control

  • Develop software & firmware to support embedded systems and payload functionality

  • Develop test hardware and software for integration and testing of flight hardware

  • Oversee prototype hardware development, integration, and testing

  • Collaborate with systems engineering and cross-disciplinary teams (mechanical, thermal, optical, etc.) to ensure system-level performance

  • Prepare electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and documentation for procurement and manufacturing

  • Support environmental testing and qualification of flight hardware

  • Manage configuration control of released designs and firmware

  • Conduct trade studies and present design review materials to internal and external stakeholders

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design and analysis for space systems or high-reliability environments

  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, and electrical analysis

  • Experience with firmware development for embedded systems

  • Proficient with test equipment such as lab bench power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers

  • Familiarity with space environmental constraints and testing (thermal vacuum, radiation, EMI/EMC)

  • Strong documentation and communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with payload electronics, RF systems, or power systems for space applications

  • Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and test

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as: IPC-2221 (Generic Standard on Printed Board Design), IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) NASA-STD-8739.1 (Workmanship for Electronic Assemblies), NASA-STD-8739.4 (Crimping, Interconnecting Cables, Harnesses), NASA-STD-8739.6 (Electrostatic Discharge Control)
