Job description
Hydrosat is a space and data analytics company building a new Earth Observation constellation and software to unlock the power of thermal infrared imagery. Our mission is to capture and deliver high spatio-temporal resolution thermal infrared data, currently not available from other sources, to provide insights that benefit the environment, enhance food and water security, and serve other critical applications. Our ground segment engineering team combines best-in-class remote sensing, software engineering and large scale cloud computing to take data from our in-house satellites to deliver novel data products.
We are looking for bright, creative, and ambitious people who can work in a dynamic and collaborative start-up environment. Hydrosat is determined to change the way people use space imagery and revolutionize agriculture. Join us on this mission and help transform the world.
As a Software Engineer, Imaging Science, you will help power future scientific data products at Hydrosat by supporting image processing, radiometric calibration, and atmospheric correction activities. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams - including space segment engineering, software engineering, and product. Your work will bridge pre-launch data collection, developing novel on-orbit calibration methods, and implementing production-grade data pipelines.
Responsibilities
Drive continuous improvements in the quality of Hydrosat’s Thermal and VNIR data products.
Assess the radiometric accuracy of Hydrosat’s data products using ground truth data (e.g., RadCalNet), well-calibrated reference sensor data, and radiative transfer tools (e.g., MODTRAN).
Contribute to the development of Hydrosat’s image processing pipeline with production-grade Python code.
Contribute to development of pre-launch data collection procedures for the next generation of Hydrosat payloads and sensors.
Create clear documentation and publications explaining methodologies and data quality for external audiences
Troubleshoot data quality issues and implementing software fixes to resolve them
Job requirements
US Citizen or Permanent Resident
5+ years of total experience with a combination of software engineering and imaging science for space-based missions
Advanced knowledge of data processing pipelines and CalVal methods, preferably Thermal and VNIR systems
An understanding of atmospheric correction methods for remote sensing data and experience with radiative transfer tools e.g. MODTRAN
Expertise in scrutinizing scientific data to identify calibration anomalies, instrument artifacts, and processing errors
Experience conducting research projects and turning research into new capabilities & products
Extensive experience writing production-grade Python code and scientific computing using Python in a Linux environment
